Ever think, “I’d love to try texting… but who would I even text?”
You’re not alone. I hear this all the time from consultants—especially if they’re brand new or trying to rebuild.
I get it. When you’re just getting started with texting, your list might feel teeny-tiny. But here’s the thing…
You don’t need a huge list to see real results. You just need a few people who want to stay in the loop about your biz.
And good news? You can start building that list this week—just by talking about it in the right places.
Let me show you how 👇
Why Texting? Why Now?

If you’ve been relying mostly on social media, you’ve probably noticed things are… quieter. Fewer comments, fewer RSVPs, and a lot more ghosting.
Texting changes the game. It puts your message in front of your customer where they’re already looking—on their phone. No algorithm, no guesswork.
And here’s the best part: the people who opt in to your texts they are essentially waving a neon flashing sign saying "Me! I want to hear what you have to offer!"
Start with the Keyword (and Keep it Simple)
The easiest and most compliant way to start building your text list is by creating a keyword in your Project Broadcast account.
Think of this like a magic word your customer can text you to raise their hand and say, “Yes, I want to hear from you!”
- Create a keyword in Project Broadcast (example: VIP, DEALS, or TEXTME).
- Set up your auto-reply to let them now what you'll share and how often.
- Test it out to make sure it works smoothly before sharing.
⚠️ Don’t forget to follow text marketing compliance rules. You’ll need to include your name, a short description of what they’re opting into, frequency of messages, and opt-out instructions (ex: “Reply STOP to unsubscribe”).

Create a Content Plan to Invite People to Opt-In
Talking about your keyword once isn’t enough. You want to build momentum and reach different people with different styles of content.
- Day 1: Tease something fun coming soon—“Want first dibs on new products + special offers? I’ve got something exciting coming…”
- Day 2: Post your keyword graphic with clear steps to opt in.
- Day 3: Share a short video: Why you’re starting texting and what’s in it for them.
- Day 4: Behind-the-scenes or sneak peek of something VIPs will get.
- Day 5: Reminder with urgency—“This is your last chance to join before my next fun drop hits VIP texts!”
Email Your Current Customers
If your company allows it, send an email from your back office or personal email list. Keep it casual and personal.
Sample Email:
Subject: “Let’s Text!”
Body: “Hey [Name], I’ve got something new and fun I’m trying—text updates for VIPs! You’ll get early access, surprise deals, and product tips. Want in? Just text the word VIP to [Project Broadcast number] to join!"
Send Personal Invites to Your Best Customers
This might feel awkward at first, but it’s so effective.
Text, voice message, or Facebook DM a handful of your best customers and simply say:
“Hey! I’m trying something new—VIP text updates! Want in? You’ll get quick updates and early access to specials. Just text VIP to [number] to join!”
Why Starting Now Matters
It’s easy to think, “I’ll wait until I have more people” or “I’ll do this after my next party.” But here’s the truth:
If you don’t start, you’ll never grow your list.
Every single person who opts in gives you more control over your business. You’re no longer waiting on social media to show your post. You’re building a real asset that YOU own.
Texting Changed Everything
I learned how to use Project Broadcast by running texting parties. It was the first thing I ever asked people to opt into—and it worked. 🎯
A whole different crowd showed up to shop by text than the ones who showed up on Facebook. These weren’t the “hang out in a Facebook group” kind of shoppers. They were busy, working full-time, and didn’t have time to scroll party posts. But they had a wishlist and money to spend.
Texting made it easy for them to say yes.
It gave me a whole new way to serve my customers—and it’ll do the same for you.
💡 How to Put This Into Action
- Create a keyword in Project Broadcast (ex: VIP).
- Set up your opt-in message to include your name, message frequency, and how to opt out.
-
Write 3–5 social media posts to promote your keyword
- Send an email to your back office list or personal email list.
- Personally invite 5 customers to be your first opt-ins.
What if I Have a List That's Not Growing?
Umm, friend! When's the last time you put intentional action behind growing your list? Have you included an invite in your follow up messages? Are you talking about it all-the-time?
